III. Patient Care

 

The dental hygiene graduates must be competent in the performance and delivery of oral health promotion and disease prevention services in public health, private practice and alternative settings. The graduates must be able to exercise critical thinking and sound clinical judgment and communicate with patients.

 

Program SLO #8: Systematically collect, analyze and record assessment data on the general, oral, periodontal, and psychosocial health status of the child, adolescent, adult, geriatric and special populations using methods consistent with medicolegal principles.

Program SLO #9: Integrate the principles of behavioral, dental, dental hygiene sciences to assess, formulate, implement and evaluate a comprehensive dental hygiene treatment plan for the patient to attain and maintain optimal oral health based on accurate, consistent and complete assessment data and modify treatment as necessary.

 

 

In my junior year, I was given the opportunity to provide a comprehensive patient care. I completed patient assessment and analysis including treatment and re-evaluation. In my senior year, I was given another opportunity to provide a comprehensive care. This year, my patient is more medically and periodontally involved.

Program SLO #11: Recognize and provide the appropriate care for a medical emergency that occurs in the dental setting.

 

In Fall 2014, I attended a CPR class at Wes LA College (also known as Basic Life Support). 

In Spring 2015, I completed a dental emergency class at WLAC. I have gained knowledge to recognize medical emergency such as hypotension urgency,thyroid storm, cerebrovascular accident, asthma, anaphylaxis, and other conditions. In addition, I am capable of  providing appropriate care for the emergency that occurs in the dental setting. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Program SLO #12: Apply problem solving strategies and critical thinking to insure comprehensive oral health care for individuals, groups and communities.

 

 

 

 

My partner and I made a power point for Advanced Periodontics class all about the classifications of prognosis based on various risk factors. 

 

 

Care Harbor is an annual event put together by a team of medical professionals and volunteers  which provides variety of health care services to the under served. I have the priviledge to be part of the event and I plan on volunteering for more years to come.

At KCDC of Burbank, my class had the opportunity to host a sealant fair. I provided sealant services to children to help them with caries prevention.
